Fishing at Bergsig Trout Farm

1. What types of fish can I catch at Bergsig Trout Farm?
Bergsig Trout Farm offers fishing for a variety of species, including Trout, Bass, Carp, Tilapia, Barbel (Catfish), with weights ranging from 400g to 1.2kg. The specimen dam is known for massive carp, some exceeding 20kg!

2. Do I need to bring my own fishing gear?
You can bring your own fishing gear, but we also offer rod rentals for those who need them. Our on-site shop sells bait, such as worms, and other fishing essentials like mieliebomb for carp fishing. Proper landing mats are required for fish care, as we practice catch-and-release for most species (except trout, which can be taken at a reasonable price per kilo, cleaned and packed for you).

3. How much does fishing cost at Bergsig?
R80 per person per day from 6am to 6pm for the conventional dams. R420 for a 24h session at the main specimen dam. R210 for a 24h session at our Conventional dams. These are for week days only. Contact Bergsig for Weekend Bookings or Enquiries on 083 447 1617.

4. Can I fish at night?
Night fishing is allowed, especially for those who book a campsite by the specimen dam or river. Some anglers have reported success fishing for carp and trout during early morning hours (e.g., 03:00 to 05:30). However, please arrange with management if you plan to fish late, as some areas may be reserved for campers.

5. Is fishing at Bergsig suitable for beginners?
Yes, Bergsig is great for beginners! We offer guidance for first-time anglers, including how to use the rods and bait. The smaller dams are ideal for beginners, while the specimen dam is better for experienced anglers targeting large carp.

6. Can I host my wedding at Bergsig Trout Farm?
Absolutely! Bergsig Trout Farm is now a premier outdoor wedding venue. With scenic dams, lush greenery, and a serene atmosphere, it’s perfect for nature-inspired weddings. We can accommodate up to 150 guests, and you can customize your setup with a marquee, outdoor ceremony by the dam, or a reception under the trees.

10. What are the operating hours of Bergsig Trout Farm?
We are open 7 days a week for day visits (no booking required). However, bookings for camping or weddings must be made during office hours, Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00.

11. Can I camp at Bergsig Trout Farm?
Yes, we offer camping along the Crocodile River and near the specimen dam. Campsites are under shady trees, with access to ablution facilities (hot and cold showers available). Power points are available at some sites. Contact us to book your spot!

12. Are braais allowed at Bergsig?
Yes, we have loose-standing braais available for use. However, no fires are allowed on the lawn or surrounding areas unless arranged with management. Firewood is available for purchase at our on-site shop.

13. Is Bergsig pet-friendly?
Yes, pets are welcome at Bergsig! Bring your furry friends along for a day of fishing, picnicking, or camping. Please ensure they are well-behaved and cleaned up after.

14. What amenities are available at Bergsig?
We have a small on-site shop selling snacks, cool drinks, ice, bait, and fishing equipment. Ablution facilities with hot and cold showers are available for campers. The venue offers beautiful mountain views, plenty of birdlife, and a tranquil escape from the city.

15. How do I get to Bergsig Trout Farm?
Bergsig Trout Farm is located at R374, Kromdraai Road, Krugersdorp, in Muldersdrift, near Swartkop Mountain in the Cradle of Humankind. The last few kilometers of the road are gravel, so please drive carefully. We’re about 15 minutes from parts of Johannesburg—contact us on WhatsApp, and we’ll send you a pin for easy directions!
