Here’s everything you need to know about our Fishing Adventures at Bergsig Trout Farm! Whether you’re casting for trout, bass, carp, tilapia, barbel (catfish), or yellowfish, our six dams and riverfront along the Crocodile River offer incredible fishing opportunities for all skill levels. We cater to trout fishing, specimen fishing, and conventional/papgooi fishing, making Bergsig the perfect spot for a family outing or a serious angling session.

Our Fishing Dams and Riverfront

Bergsig Trout Farm boasts six scenic dams and a kilometer-long riverfront along the Crocodile River, providing diverse fishing experiences. Here’s what you can expect:

• Specimen Dam: Our main attraction, stocked with massive carp (up to 21.7 kg) and bass. Ideal for serious anglers using boilies (no uncooked or dry bait which includes tigernuts, mielies, peanuts etc). Catch-and-release only, with strict fish care rules.
  Note: Bass fishing permitted only with management approval and in designated sections.
• Conventional Dam: Stocked with carp (up to 18.2 kg) and bass, perfect for conventional/papgooi fishing with your favorite baits. Suitable for all anglers.
• Trout Dam: Ideal for fly fishing or light tackle. A favorite for beginners and seasoned trout anglers.
• Three Smaller Dams: These dams offer bass, carp, tilapia, and barbel, providing a relaxed fishing experience for families and casual anglers.
• Crocodile River: A kilometer-long stretch with bass, carp, tilapia, barbel, yellowfish, and occasional trout. Great for those seeking a natural river fishing adventure.

Our dams and riverfront are surrounded by shady trees and grassy areas, perfect for picnics or camping. Clean ablutions, power points, and braai facilities are available for your comfort.

Fishing Adventure Pricing

We offer flexible pricing to suit solo anglers, families, and groups. Pricing is per person for most sessions, except for the Specimen Dam, which is charged per swim (max 2 anglers and 4 fishing rods per swim). All prices include access to our fishing facilities, with camping and night fishing included in 24-hour sessions.

Conventional Fishing Pricing

• 12-Hour Session (06:00 to 18:00):
  Per Person: R80 - kids under the age of 3 years stay for free.
• 24-Hour Session (includes camping and night fishing):
  Per Person: R210 - kids under the age of 3 years stay for free.
• These are Week Days only - please contact us for weekend pricing.

Specimen Fishing Pricing (Main Dam)

  Per Person: R420 - kids under the age of 3 years stay for free.

Note: Unhooking mats, soft landing nets and carp care kits are mandatory.

What’s Included?

Your fishing adventure at Bergsig includes access to all designated fishing areas (based on your booking), clean facilities, and secure parking. For 24-hour sessions, camping is included with access to power points and ablutions with warm showers. Our on-site shop sells essentials like bait, snacks, ice, and cool drinks, rod rentals are available for beginners that do not have their own kit yet.

Tips for Your Fishing Adventure

To make the most of your visit:

• Trout Fishing: Use light tackle or fly fishing gear for the trout dam. Early mornings or late afternoons are best.
• Specimen Fishing: Bring boilies and proper carp care equipment for the Specimen Dam. Check with management for bait recommendations.
• Conventional/Papgooi Fishing: Try mielie bombs or worms for carp and bass in the conventional dam or smaller dams.
• River Fishing: Explore the Crocodile River for yellowfish and barbel. Be prepared for varied conditions.
